when i was along with my Singaporean counterparts in Cebu, i gave them a small guitar souvenir and one thing that immediately came into their mind is that Filipinos are so inclined to music. i agreed.one thing that makes Cebu city even more marketable to the tourists is its decades old guitar industry. from a time when the Spanish influenced the Cebuanos to a musical instrument that evolved and progressed.one of the many guitar factory is the Alegre Guitars. located in an almost hidden area of Abuno in the island of Mactan. owned by Fernando Bebbot Alegre who's a good guitarist himself.they have a showroom open to all where one can even see how each of the guitars are made intricately. from different types of wood forming the country's most loved and widely used instrument.from generation to generation, the guitars that they are making had evolved as well from the mere standard guitars to making yukaleles, mandolas, banjos, and bass guitars. Alegre Guitars is located in Abuno, Lapu Lapu City, Mactan island. i recommend that you take a cab going there. estimated travel time from the Mactan airport to this place is just about 30minutes or less.
although i prefer the sound of violins over guitars; both strings make good music but shame on me i don't know how to play them =) ...the first photo here is fascinating.
Hi Dong! So Cebu is famous for making guitar, didn't know that. During school days, I tried to learn guitar but gave up when my finger tips hurt . Anyway, I think that was an excuse LOL.
R u coming to SG? For holiday? It has been raining everyday now.
This is a great blog you have here! I have a travel blog myself which I hope it to be one of the top resources for those looking for experiences and advice on popular vacation destinations.
I'd like us to do a link exchange to help spread some traffic around to each other. This message is copied/pasted to save time, but I look at each site I submit a comment to.
Maganda 'tong puntahan. Thanks for sharing!
I love the first photo, i dunno how to play the guitar but once, i had a friend who taught me how and he was actually very patient with me, nagkahiwalay na lang kami, hindi pa rin ako natuto...
yan ang namiss ko sa Cebu---ang mag gitara--diko napansin. nawala talaga sa isip ko. hehe. diko tuloy alam kung san ang area na famous ang mga gitara....
Cebu is very much popular when it comes to guitar even in our place in Mindanao. When I was in Grade IV, my parents used to buy a Cebu-made guitar for me. I didn't learn how to play it as guitar is not of my interest. Anyhow, at least my brother next to me learned to play it instead...

One of my frustrations is that I don't know how to play any musical instrument now. I can't even play a guitar, what a shame!

I bought a guitar (gifted to someone) during one of my visits to Cebu. I forgot though from which town/store. Cebu pricing is more reasonable.
