the drivers were shock every time we ask if we can ride on top of the jeepney even when there's no one inside it yet.our last day in the island of Marinduque was a stopover at the town of Sta Cruz, East of the island. like most of our trips there, i again took the best spot. the topload.it was so hot that day. so just imagine staying on top for more than an hour from Boac to Sta Cruz. but with good view and the great experience of riding on top of the jeepney is really something one should try.we passed by hills and small villages with areas having zigzag yet nothing really extraordinary to see along the way. best to do topload in this island is from Balanacan port to the town of Boac. i highly recommend this.we reached the town just in time, tired but excited. the town of Sta Cruz as they say has a bigger population than the capital town of Boac. Sta Cruz has more modern structures than the rustic town of Boac. but they are equally silent and unbusy. the town area of Sta Cruz is on top of a hilly ground. the people are so friendly here. engaging them in conversation made that tiring day beautiful. genuine Filipino hospitality.a walk around the town is a nice experience but with the heat, we decided to just drop by the church. that to be featured on my next post.
ang galing! why would you want to be positioned on the topload, isn't that dangerous, but i agree with you, it's the best post to be at when traveling.
I am surprised that tourism is not more developed in Marinduque... it is not so far from Manila... and as your pictures show...it is a beautiful island!
Nice photo of a lovely town. No thank you, I prefer to ride inside the jeep...lol. Otherwise I have to apply lots of sunblock cream and it is not safe too. :)
i travelled on the top when i was in Belawei too. it sure beat sitting inside but after a while it did feel very hot. also at the same time i had to b extra protective of the camera
>hi sheng, for the experience. it's something that usually happens in the province and never tried it yet so making it for the first time is really cool. so if you'll ask me if ill do it again. ill definitely do it again.
>hi photocache, dangerous if you are careless. there's a safeway to do it. hehehe...
>pao, fresh nga mainit nga lang talaga. off season are usually june - september.
>sidney, that's true. people from manila usually think that marinduque is really far. some people doesnt even know where it is. tourism of marinduque should make a bigger move for this.
>hi alicesg, hahaha... i really hope that you get to ride a jeepney. even at least inside it.
>luke, thanks!
>livingstain, thanks for dropping by. the photo in the header was taken in pagbilao quezon. you can check my post on this by checking out the label quezon on my sidebar.
>xprosaic, it's cheap going there. it depends on where you'll stay and how long you'll be there. but it's still cheap. you should go there. if you need details just send me an email.
>bengbeng, that's great! yes you really need to be careful. when we were there, i made sure that one hand is holding the camera and the other hand holding the jeep's handrail.
Safe pa rin riding on the top kelangan lang mag ingat.
The jeepney's topload is indeed fun and a vantage point for sightseeing. Even foreigners in the Philippines enjoyed doing it. I remember doing it in Ifugao - however, it got so bumpy it hurt my arse.
i wish i have the guts on ride on top of the jeep! wala bang sinturon-pangkaligtasan? lol
i like provincial roads--the absence of traffic, the scenic views, and all the interesting things we see by the roadside. thanks for sharing this trip with us.
When I was still in high school, I once rode on the flat bed of a truck. I positioned myself at the rear end so I can dangle my legs freely. It was fun until we hit a big bump on the road and I went flying out and landed on my butt on the road. Luckily, there was no vehicle following us or I would have been a goner. I had a sore end for days but I learned my lesson well LOL.
Riding on top of jeepneys is something I've never tried, but I'm willing to give it a shot. :D The nice photos you posted justifies the risks. ;) Btw, I noticed there are some faint black spots on a couple of your photos... alikabok kaya yan sa lens? I hope it's from on your sensor.
You're really so adventurous huh?! Just make sure you're always safe on what you're doing! Marinduque is a beautiful island as shown on your photos! I hope to see that place too!
>hi missy, my pleasure to feature marinduque here. it's a beautiful island that you got there. no we werent able to explore that. it simply gives us enough reason to go back.
>hi rachel, yes. it was worth. one of the most exciting rides that i experience happened there.
>redlan, tama. hindi ramdam pero sunog ka pa rin. hehehe... ganun nga din sa marinduque. bawal talaga pero pag puno na wala ng choice.
>nomadicpinoy, that's true. it's an experience one should really try. im actually planning to do that on my next trip to the cordilleras.
>hi luna, i believe you can endure it. kaya mo nga yung mahabang byahe sa banaue. you should try it.
>dennis, every traveler would agree to that. beautiful marinduque.
>bertn, hahaha... but that's what makes a trip memorable and special. thanks for sharing! watch out for another contest this entry might be good.
>garando, yes you should try it. not here in manila. usually jeepneys here doesnt have a topload rail and yes it's prohibited. try doing it in the province.
that's in my lens. ill bring my camera to a shop for cleaning.
>hi tita beng, hindi naman masyado. yes kailangan din talaga na maingat. salamat! that i guarantee you. marinduque is beautiful!
>hi sandy, yes they are clean.
>allen, during the holy week lang kami nandun. check ko yang pandan island. parang maganda nga.
i wish i had the courage like you to stay on top of the jeep, takot ako sa araw, lalo na sa init eh haha. i'm sure the beautiful view had complemented this anyway. by the way, i would like to link your blog on my blog list.
i wanted to try riding on top of a jeep but i am too chicken to do it! ack! i think napaka tv-like pag nakasakay ka dun traveling to somewhere LOL isa pa pakiramdam ko baka pag liko mahulog ako clumsy pa naman ako LOL
>jasper, you should still try it. maybe in the cordilleras dahil hindi ganun ka init. i guarantee you, it's an experience you'll never forget. thanks for adding me in your link list.
>asian traveler, it is a very quiet town. sometimes it'll make you wonder, where are the people here?
>gillboard, sayang naman. dami na rin kasing developments. buti na lang dami pang probinsya.
>hi prinsesamusang, i highly recommend that you try it. sa bandang gitna ka lang para safe. thanks for dropping by.
>hi grace, yes. malinis talaga doon. disiplinado pa talaga ang mga tao.
>ferdz, that's true. lahat nga yata ng pumupunta doon na eenganyo talaga sa isla. makes me miss our own island province.
>eliment, sorry though for posting few photos but it's nice to know that you somehow felt like you were really there.
>fufu, that'll be great! we'll be very happy to bring you around once you return.
But that should happen not while in Metro Manila. Nakakatakot. =)
I have experienced riding on topload of jeepney in Mauban,Quezon many many years ago. It was scary and road was rocky but it was a nice experience.. :)
Hope to see Marinduque someday. Right now, Im enjoying a virtual trip through your post. :)
>hi reena, yes. the rural areas in the philippines looks almost the same because we have common crops for most of the provinces. sta cruz is uphill but not as high as baguio. i too was surprised to see those pine trees.
yes they do have mtrcb. hehehe...
>pietro, thanks! yes it was sunny during that time.
>hi jei, if you're the type of person who loves to commute and ride jeepneys, then you'll lvoe marinduque. i recommend that you bring your family there. the island is beautiful.
>luke, as how you see it.
>hi gizelle, that we didnt try. hehehe... but i can testify that marinduque is really a nice place. nice to know that you somehow stayed there.
>witsandnuts, yung mga ganitong byahe talagang mamimiss mo ang pinas. gawin natin yan pagbalik mo sa december. definitely not in manila.
>marlon, sarap nga talaga bumyahe sa pilipinas. mura na magaganda pa ang mga mapupuntahan mong lugar. salamat sa pagbisita.
>hi nuts, oh great! we went there but we didnt try doing topload because we took the bus to mauban from lucena. rough roads makes a topload experience extreme.
thanks for enjoying the virtual experience here. you should go to marinduque.
>hi bw, walang seatbelt dun. ingat lang ang kailangan at sanayan. in our case, it's safer kasi maayos na ang daan sa marinduque.
>hi dyanie, delikado nga yung ganun sa jeepney ok lang. dont know with a tricycle. nakakatakot pag hindi sementado ag daan. salamat sa pagbisita.

Great shots and thanks for featuring, our province, Marinduque on your blog :-) did you go to Marcopper and elephant island?
Being on top of a moving jeep must be part of the adventure too. The view must have made the heat worth enduring.

Ano kaya ang hitsura ng simbahan? Abangan ko yan.

Beautiful views! Marinduque is really a nice island I wouldn't mind going back several times!

What a neat road. Great stuff.
I still suggest you go to Pandan, Antique. haha.

rural areas look the same to me. their roads look better though. and they even have pine trees! malamig ba sa marinduque?
is there a blog mtrcb? i was inclined to say something but held it back. i might get kicked out. haha.
see you around again. :)
Nice series of images, Dong.
You had a splendid weather with bright light, hadn't you?
gustong-gusto ko ang mga road trips na tulad nito. honestly, parang gusto kong pumunta ng marinduque with my hubby and kids.
A lovely town!
Were you able to pet the brown pigs wandering there? I always have fun memories of Sta. Cruz, unassuming but very peaceful and very close to nature!
But that should happen not while in Metro Manila. Nakakatakot. =)

nice shots... riding on top of a jeepney ? hwa.. merong ka bang seat belt ? That's pretty gutsy for you hehe :)
parang nakakatakot naman sumakay sa taas. so pwede pala yun noh? kahit walang sakay yung tricycle tapos may sasakay sa taas, di sya tutumba?
-dyanie-
