battle of the morions - moriones festival 2009

we were so privileged that we've witnessed the first Battle of the Morions interpretation competition during the Moriones Festival 2009.one thing that i like about the festival was the tourism booth that provided free detailed tourists information in the form of a booklet. it includes in it the one week schedule of the activities of the whole Festival on the different towns of Marinduque.it made it easier for us to check what we need to witness and activities that we can skip. one activity that we made sure we watched was the Battle of the Morions presentations.the competition allows the participants to perform as a group the reenactment of the Longinus story. it focused more on the beheading of this converted Roman soldier. you can review the story here.four groups from the different towns performed at the town arena. area was filled with people eager to see another event that'll happen for the first time.coming along with each group are their own music group that provided rhythm to the presentation. some came in mardigra beats.it was not yet as impressive, but it was a good start. something that we can look forward to see next year as it thrives.

Umulan pala diyan nung Moriones festival. This is the first time I've seen Moriones dancing..di ko yata ito nakita last year.

Thanks for sharing, Dong!

Ganun pala yun, I dont know the Moriones story either. And thanks sa booklet, mas naaapreciate ng tourists and travelers pag may guide.

Btw, Enrico and I are sooo OK. My entry was just a repost. My bad for making a confusion. ;)

>hi carver, nice to know that. thanks!

>hi reena, kulit mo lagi. sama ka naman next year di ba?

>pusang-gala, definitely. they are as excited. pupunta talaga kami ng anda. kaya hingi ako ng mga tips pagpunta doon.

>dennis, yes umulan nung bandang gitna. pero tuloy pa rin yung presentation. first time nangyari.

>hi chyng, galing talaga nung ginawa ng tourism nila. sana makasama ka next year.

kala ko nga ngayon yon. repost pala.

>hi photocache, there were foreigners but we were expecting a big domestic tourists. but there were just enough. hindi pa talaga masyadong pinupuntahan itong moriones that's why im bringing a group next year.

>hi alicesg, you'll definitely enjoy taking photos. the colorful masks are really photo perfect

>hi napaboaniya, very different because even in the philippines this festival is unique. only in this island.

>hi dyosa, talagang pinaghandaan talaga. kaya sama ka next year.

>olan, ganda talaga ng moriones festival. it happens during the holy week pero yung mga competitions happens mostly during holy thursday.

by june na ako makakapunta.

>pietro, you'll really enjoy taking photos. the costumes are beautifully made.

zherwin said...

Interesting. I just hope they won't do the dancing as it looks weird having soldiers dancing on a holy week (holy week nga ba ito?) hehehe.

Joy said...

Oh wow! That must have been a spectacular scene. And you are right - having the Tourism Department on board is very helpful. This is one of the things I'd like to contribute towards in the Philippines. Perhaps you and I can sit down with others (especially someone from the Tourism Dept who has the power to make decisions) and figure out how we can improve the tourism industry!

Sorry for not visiting sooner. I was away for 3 days. Thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come back tomorrow for a new series!

ito, opinyon ko lang pero I find it cheesy kung pasasayawin ang mga Centurions. but great photos, nevertheless. at least, sa kuha mo, kagalang-galang pa rin ang mga dancing centurions.ü

Sigh... Kahit nung bata pako I always wanted to go to the Moriones festival. I was so intriqued by their huge masks kase. Hopefully i get to go there someday with Garandee.
