street vendors - in motion

street vendors occupies the sidewalk areas at night and even at daytime on some places. some of them works in the morning and starts selling items at night. although this is illegal and looking at the population of the people earning below the minimum wage, this will definitely continue to exist.

national heroes' day

today, the Philippines will be celebrating the National Heroes' Day. we have seen heroes of our time. among the many Philippine heroes, I personally admire Benigno Ninoy Aquino Jr. (November 27, 1932 - August 31, 1983), Dr. Jose Rizal (June 19, 1861 - December 30, 1896) and Andres Bonifacio (November 30, 1863 - May 10, 1897). they were killed to stop their fight for justice. they died in order to make us realize that the Filipinos are worth dying for. today, many modern Filipino heroes arises. not as politicians or leaders but in their own small ways have brought with them the real character of what Filipinos can do for their God, for their family and for their country. mabuhay ang mga ordinaryong bayaning pinoy!photos were taken at Rizal's monument in Binan Laguna. a place where Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero, took residence studied during his childhood days.

september

September will be another month that i'm really looking forward to come. yes, it is still August but let me share you this song by Kirk Franklin. it is the carrier single of the album "Interpretations : Celebrating the music of Earth Wind and Fire".
this is a revised version of "September" by Earth Wind and Fire. here's a link to the video. the lyrics is simply amazing.

September
Kirk Franklin

Do You Remember, When it was like September?
Before You Grew Cold Like December
And All You Saw were Cloudy Days

And I Remember, That Day When You gave up
You Stopped hurting Cuz You Remembered
The Season It Won't Last Always

Ba De Ya, Tell Me You Remember
Ba De Ya, When your Heart Felt Like September
Still Had The Joy, and God Was Just A Prayer Away

Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop, Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop
(I Can See Clearly Now)
Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop, Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop
(The Sun Is Much Brighter Now)
Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop
(The Season It Won't Last Always)

Seems Like Forever
You Said When Will My Life Get Better
I'm Tired Of Stormy Weather,
But The Sun Always Shine In May

So Just Remember,
The Next Time You Feel Like December
Remember That Night In September,
When God Wipe All your Tears Away

Ba De Ya, Tell Me You Remember
Ba De Ya, When Your Heart Feels Like September
Still Had The Joy, and God Was Just A Prayer Away (2x)

Everybody Has A September In Their Life.
You Know The First Time You Heart Gods Voice
So You Felt His Love
So No Mather What Season You End Up Right Now
after Winter Comes Springs...
So If You Love My Jesus Help Me Sing

Ba De Ya, Tell Me You Remember
Ba De Ya, In Your Heart Feels Like September
Still Had The Joy, and God Was Just A Prayer Away (2x)

Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya
( I can see clearly now)
Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya
(The sun is much brighter now)
Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya
(the season it wont last always)
(2x)

(Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya) Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop, Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop
(I Can See Clearly Now)
(Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya) Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop, Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop
(The Sun Is Much Brighter Now)
(Ba De Ya De Ya De Ya) Ba Doo Doop Ba Doop,
(The Season It Won't Last Always)

happy birthday to "iggy"!

a disturbing moment

of all the post that i've done in this blog, this might be the hardest subject to post. but we cannot be blinded by such scenes. when i was roaming around Fuente Osmena, i saw a boy sniffing an addictive solvent along the street of Gen. Maxilom in Cebu city.this is really disturbing because before, they only do it on hidden places but now they do it anywhere they want even in public places like these. after some few shots, a police approached the kid and confiscated the solvent.

our country has a lot to do. we have a lot to do.

homeless

i took this shot last May when I was in Cebu. this was taken on one of the overpass in Fuente Osmena circle. the country is already facing poverty, gas price increase and now conflicts in Mindanao. the ongoing encounters of the military and the MILF group in Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao is really disturbing. more and more people are affected with their livelihood, safety and the children's education. let's hope that things will get better in the coming days.

i've been very busy lately and will still be busy in the coming weeks. so i'll be posting some photos from my archive. but i'll still make time to drop by your blogs.

front seat

taking the front seat of a jeepney will give you the best view when traveling. but maybe the best view from this seat is the driver. in some instances the driver involves you on a certain topic and starts sharing his own story. but on this trip, the driver was just silent thinking of something.

night camp

night camp are truly rewarding. it builds camaraderie from a casual conversation. from jokes to some serious thoughts it all boils down to building a stronger friendship.among my favorite night camps in the past two years are as follows:
1. night camp at the crater of Mt. Pinatubo (March 2006) - the whole night, we were talking and every line from each of us always ends up in laughter.
2. night camp at Mt. Gulugod (June 2006) - we were 41 in the group so you can imagine how big our circle was occupying a large flat area.3. night camp in Bantayan island (May 2008) - was definitely the most silent night camp yet it was also soothing as very few people were on the beach shore. no lights on the beach line except for the lights from the cottages from afar. silent and relaxing. 4. night camp in Calayo Batangas (June 2008) - we played pusoy dos the whole night and ended around 4:00am while others enjoyed the karaoke. the next day, we were still in high energy and did kayak the rest of the day. 5. night camp in Capones island (July 2008) - we were ten in the group. shared something about ourself. ended sleeping around 9:00am, which is the earliest time to end a night camp, because it started to rain. but we woke up 12 in the midnight and continued our conversation till 3:00am. imagine seeing people building sand castle around 2:00am others were playing cards while the rest are having some conversations.these are just some of the recent memorable night camps. maybe you want to share your night camp experience too. all photos here were taken from Capones night camp.

nightscape 2.0

dong'ho's byaheng nightscape 2.0 features photos taken at night or simply when the sun is down. dong first featured nightscape during the month of May. the photo used for the header was taken from the bonfire of our camp at Capones island. the typhoon and the country's rainy season limits the chances of traveling. so for the meantime, dong ho will be in night mode. you can check out my May archive of nightscape.

el playa de capones

the island of Capones has several beach sites around its coast. looking at the map that i made, you'll notice that the longest beach line are the ones of Adelante and Limpyo on one side then Huego and Maryada on the other side. the names given to the parts of the island in this map are unofficial, these are completely made by dong to make it easier to describe and locate the areas around the island. the beaches here offers many options to the beach bums. the side connecting Adelante and Piedra One are parts where rocks the reef line. these are sites for snorkeling since the water is calmer here.Huego and Maryada beach offers waves coming from the South China Sea. although Maryada beach has big waves, i don't recommend surfing in that area because of huge rocks on some parts of its shoreline. Huego beach will definitely be the best option for surfers, it has a wider beach line. this is one of the best option for beach activities.for those who simply love to swim and snorkel, Adelante beach will be perfect for you. our camp site is between Adelante and Limpyo beach line.but i consider Limpyo beach as the best part of the island. this is the best beach site in the island. you'll also have a scenic view of Mt. Anawangin while swimming and enjoying the waves in Limpyo beach line.i highly recommend you to visit this island, as it offers many options whether you're a beach lover or someone who enjoys scenic natural landscape. although a day trip is possible, an overnight will complete your great island experience in Capones.thanks to Lingkod Alabang bros for the camaraderie. Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon is a Catholic community for single professionals. our group belongs to Lingkod Alabang branch.to Lawstude, thank you for joining the thrill of crossing huge waves (under Igme's control) and for being part of this island escapade. since you dedicated one post for us, we then dedicate this post to you. your presence really added fun to the group. till the next trip.

a green perspective - capones

beyond its long beach line, are the grassy hills rising in the island of Capones. this is by far one of the best natural landscape that i've seen in an island.the rock formations that forms the landscape looks like someone big has really worked on its details to make it this scenic. we spent so much time taking pictures in Sakate hill. on top of this hill, you'll have a great view of the island's shoreline.on the leftmost edge of Adelante beach stands an abandoned building which looks like a resort discontinued. it looks like it was constructed years back. to me, this abandoned building blends with the landscape.on the other side of the Sakate hill, you'll get a view of Camara island and mountain range of Zambales.hiking farther up, on one side you'll see part of Maryada and Huego beach front. the waves from here are continuous formed from the winds of typhoon Igme which already entered the Philippine area of responsibility.right side from this vantage is the Lehos wall and the Agudo hill. Agudo hill is accessible through the Kamino beach front which will also lead you to the lighthouse of the island.looking down, you'll see the Huego beach line. which is accessible via Maryada beach or through the Sakate downhill. from all the islands that i've visited, i consider Capones as one of the best in terms of natural landscape. to see the island this as green as this, best time to be there will be between July until August. just make sure that you check the weather forecast before you decide to go to the island. Lawstude will feature more stunning shots of these hills in the coming days.
