skimboarding - boracay island

"just run, throw and jump" they say. it seems that skimboarding is as easy as just doing that.one of the most usual activity that you'll be seeing in Boracay is skimboarding. this boardsport requires a beach that has a flat surface where the board can smoothly slide and Boracay has it.according to wikipedia, this sport is believed to have originated from Laguna beach in California around 1920. it's now becoming more popular in the Philippines. i've seen some people doing skimboarding in Bantayan island when i was there last May.the board used for this is thinner than the usual board used for surfing and other boardsport. a skimboard usually cost between P1,500 - P5,000 (around $30 - $100) . but you can buy the ones locally made at a cheaper price.if you want to try it, you can just approach some of the enthusiast and they can lend it to you for a while. others also allow you to use it just for P100 ($2). they can also teach you the basic.it requires a lot of practice to master it because it's not just about running, throwing the board and jumping on it. you need balance, timing and focus. once you've mastered it, you can already do some special moves like boarding on it upside down or at least jump over a ramp.for people who has a sporty soul, is it worth trying? yes. season of advent begins today! tomorrow is another month and how to best celebrate it? go to Anilao. i'll be dropping by your blogs tomorrow night.

>erick, ayos! ganda nga kasi mura lang at hindi ka masasaktan kahit makailang hulog dahil pino ang sand doon.

>hi mys, thanks! they really enjoyed it. i was watching them go back and forth. you too take care.

>redlan, oo advent na. ramdam na ang lamig pag gabi. kahapon nasa tagaytay kami sobrang lamig na.

siguro pag nandun ka most of the time nakatambay ka lang. nakakaadik talaga ang skimboarding.

>richard, tama ka dyan.

>borneo, yes it is safe when you do it on a flat surface with fine sand because it wont hurt you so much when you fall. try this one time.

There are regular skimboarders in Butuan beach too. I'll go there one of these days and post pictures.

Nice way to capture the boards in the sand in photos. Very colourful. Looked like so much fun but I am too old for this type of sport...lol. I think they are more ideal and suitable for my two sons. Isn't it nice to be young? Meanwhile I think I better enjoyed my crafts while my eyes are still good. :)

You posted this as if this is a sport. This is nothing more than poor kids running on scrap pieces of wood... which I noticed you left out of the pics (easily 90% of the people doing that here on Boracay). It lasts less than 10 meters and 6 seconds - why do you delude these sheeple into thinking its a sport?

The varied, so natural, sea and sky and beach are really attractive in these wonderful images!
Beautiful post, Dong.
