among the 7,107 islands of the Philippines, the island of Boracay is definitely the most famous. it is located at the heart of the country, Southeast of Manila.it is popularly claimed to have the finest powdery white sand in the archipelago. voted as the most popular beach in the world by Yahoo! users in 2007 (here) and world's best beaches positioning at number seven (here). plus of course, it gained the number one spot of Eskapo's readers choice (here).the island in the 70s was an isolated beach paradise not until the 80s when more people came in to explore what Jens Peters, a German traveller, wrote about in his book.in the 90s the island was continuously developed as bigger hotels and resorts sprouted along the main beach shores. the island became more accessible thru three major ways all of which leads to Boracay's gateway, the barangay of Caticlan in the Panay island.the island of Boracay belongs to the municipality of Malay in the Panay group of islands. it has three barangay divisions Manoc-Manoc, Balabag and Yapak. the Central Boracay area or the main beach area is partly under Balabag and Manoc-Manoc.in the coming posts we'll explore the greater Boracay island. from tips to special features of what the island offers.

What can I say? Even if IMO, it became too commercialize, I'm still thankful for its popularity as a tourist destination. That island helps a lot in my province's economy.
