there's a highway where the pines opens a way to a beautiful place. this is the uphill town of Don Salvador Benedicto, which is just 42kilometers East of Bacolod city.just an hour bus ride will bring you to a place now developed to be Negros' little Baguio. the town of Don Salvador Benedicto is located in a valley between two mountains, Mt. Madalagan and Mt. Canlaon.it was named after Don Salvador Benedicto, a former vice governor who was influential in the forming of a revolutionary government during the Japanese occupation.this highway was recently developed to open a shorter way to the city of San Carlos. it also gave more access to the remote towns of the highlands of Negros Occidental.part of its development was the planting of the pine trees along the highway leading to the town of Don Salvador. it was planted few years back and is now growing in abundance in this part of the highway. the bus trip leading to this town is simply breathtaking. now i know why my father recommended me to see this place.

haaaay.... ang ganda sobra... hehehe! i'm saying that like as if i'm not from here. sayang kasi limited yung time ng mga friends ko who came here for the masskara festival. dapat nakita rin nila yan kaso sobrang konti talaga ng oras
>hi eunice, hahaha... the place is quite big when you get to see the upcoming post.
>hi share, yes. he always recommends nice places to me.
>hi nix, great! ill check it out. thanks too for dropping by.
Pics reminds me of the song " the long and winding road" :)
Very informative post Dong. Didn't realize there is now a short cut road from Bacolod to San Carlos via the mountains. The pine trees are a a pretty indeed :)
this is great! this place is really really great! dito ko lang nalaman na may little baguio din pala sa bcd. sobrng nakakarelax tingnan lalo pa kaya kong nandun ka. how was the feeling to be there dom? yung the time na nakaupo ka sa last pic.
Oh I it must be very nice to even just ride your bike there, pines on both sides of the road. Thanks for showing this, I would not have known that pines grow anywhere else but Tagaytay and Baguio.
oh yeah, it's beautiful and so amazing! so rare in the Philippines knowing that the government spend less on developing rural areas... reminds of me of some part in Bohol (on the way to the Chocolate Hills)...
Another one to put in my list to visit. Kaya lang everytime I see these places, I was reminded of the people on whose blood and sweat built the hacienda of the Benedicto's, the Aquino's in Tarlac, etc. Maybe I am just reading too much of K. Mayo's Isles of Fear.
Its nice to see that we don't have to go overseas to find beautiful roads lined with pine trees.
>bw, yes. now it will only take about 2hours to go to san carlos city thru this highway. you'll enjoy every part of the trip from pandanon onwards.
>phivos, it surely is!
>hi vic, yes. very ideal place to live.
>hi carver, yes it is.
>photo cache, thanks! you'll definitely enjoy cycling here because very few vehicles use the road. there are other unpopular places similar to this around the philippines like the town of leon in iloilo. you just need to explore it.
>hi shawie, little by little the government has realized the effect of development of rural areas as tourist spots. retaining the beauty of nature. a little similar to the one in bohol.
>jayshkal, it definitely is worth seeing. there's a lot to see there. just keep in touch with the next post.
i think it does not happen anymore these days. in this case, the government invested on this project and the locals benefited from it as more and more people are coming to appreciate nature's hidden secret here in don salvador.
>jm, thanks! it surely is because very few vehicles pass by this highway.
>tink, i also love that one. thanks!
>hi sandy, thanks. it is simply beautiful.
>hi nanay belen, ganda talaga.
You won't feel tired traveling in this hiway because of the beautiful scenery. Besides that, the green trees helps in reducing eye strain.
I did not know that may shortcut pala from Bacolod to San Carlos.
>hi eastcoastlife, hahaha... maybe you need to start planting it now. LOL.
>hector, thanks too for dropping by.
>tr3nta, idyllic indeed! it's good to know that you tried kayaking because i really kayaking.
>hendrawan, definitely!
>mel, you're welcome.
>blogusvox, i agree with that. you can just sit down along the road and relax.
>sidney, don salvador is located about 2400ft above sea level. slightly higher than tagaytay making it possible for pine trees to grow.
Thanks and salamt for dropping by my art blog. I looked at your blog and enjoyed it. I like to travel. I went o Bacolod and Murcia, Negros Occidental when I was in college. I have not been back to our homeland in 32 years. Your blog makes me get there w/ out the jet lag.
Hi Dong Ho, thanks for posting this. It's beautiful. My friend, Hilda, of My Manila said once that pines didn't grow in the Philippines (which I doubted). Now I can tell her that they do. :D
I've put your blog in my follow list btw, so that I can check it out every now and then.
So the pine trees are not naturally occurring? I'm just curious…
I'm not even sure about the ones in Baguio and it's so frustrating that I can't find any info about pine trees here.
...
I'm so glad I got pointed to your blog! I'm going to start following you now. Sana madami ka pang mapuntahan — I'll just travel vicariously through your blog. :D
WOW! You make me proud of being a negrense! Whew! Totally breath taking and awesome! Maybe you can visit our town at Canlaon City and let's hike the Mt. Kanlaon! heheh There's also another good view, similar to this, at Canlaon City. It's the way you will take from Canlaon going to San Carlos or Dumaguete. It's called "Mayon". It has pines as well and it's also a highway. The only difference is that it's a highway on a cliff...
>hi ebb, wow! didn't know you're from negros. im glad that thru this posts you were able to get a virtual tour without a jet lag. keep in touch.
>eki, thank you very much. i really appreciate that. pine trees do grow in the philippines. it is abundant in the northern luzon highlands. i already added you to my blogroll.
>pietro, you'll definitely enjoy traveling there. fresh air and very scenic views.
>hi hilda, the ones along the road were planted by the local government but i noticed that in some parts of the highlands there are also pine trees. so i somehow believe that they naturally grow here.
the ones in baguio are also natural because you'll find pine trees in the greater areas of benguet and other neighboring regions.
im glad that you find this blog interesting. thanks. adding you on my blogroll too.
>lance, very interesting! because the next time i'll visit negros, my goal is really to climb mt canlaon and mt mandalagan. but i have no dates yet for that. it's really good to know that there are still places that needs to be discovered. the philippines indeed has so much to offer. thanks for dropping by.
I hope we can do this example in other areas. I thought this was part of a park something because the place is well maintained, part pala ng highway, good. It really is such a thing of beauty

It must be very nice driving on that road sided by all those green pinetrees! Great photos!
In the first photo, the pines look so lovely against the puffy clouds.

The lighting in these is extraordinary. So soft and beautiful.

It's a scenic route but the road need some brushed up to complement the scene

Go forth and trek it.. it is your destiny.
It's a wonderful highway, so picturesque. I'd like very much to travel there.
Splendid sequence of photographs.
