there's a highway where the pines opens a way to a beautiful place. this is the uphill town of Don Salvador Benedicto, which is just 42kilometers East of Bacolod city.
just an hour bus ride will bring you to a place now developed to be Negros' little Baguio. the town of Don Salvador Benedicto is located in a valley between two mountains, Mt. Madalagan and Mt. Canlaon.
it was named after Don Salvador Benedicto, a former vice governor who was influential in the forming of a revolutionary government during the Japanese occupation.
this highway was recently developed to open a shorter way to the city of San Carlos. it also gave more access to the remote towns of the highlands of Negros Occidental.
part of its development was the planting of the pine trees along the highway leading to the town of Don Salvador. it was planted few years back and is now growing in abundance in this part of the highway.
the bus trip leading to this town is simply breathtaking. now i know why my father recommended me to see this place.

Very informative post Dong. Didn't realize there is now a short cut road from Bacolod to San Carlos via the mountains. The pine trees are a a pretty indeed :)

Oh I it must be very nice to even just ride your bike there, pines on both sides of the road. Thanks for showing this, I would not have known that pines grow anywhere else but Tagaytay and Baguio.

oh yeah, it's beautiful and so amazing! so rare in the Philippines knowing that the government spend less on developing rural areas... reminds of me of some part in Bohol (on the way to the Chocolate Hills)...
Another one to put in my list to visit. Kaya lang everytime I see these places, I was reminded of the people on whose blood and sweat built the hacienda of the Benedicto's, the Aquino's in Tarlac, etc. Maybe I am just reading too much of K. Mayo's Isles of Fear.
Its nice to see that we don't have to go overseas to find beautiful roads lined with pine trees.

i think it does not happen anymore these days. in this case, the government invested on this project and the locals benefited from it as more and more people are coming to appreciate nature's hidden secret here in don salvador.

Ang ganda nga dong. You won't feel tired traveling in this hiway because of the beautiful scenery. Besides that, the green trees helps in reducing eye strain.
I did not know that may shortcut pala from Bacolod to San Carlos. Ang sarap cguro ng pagtravel taking that road. Cge when makabalik kami ni nanay sa bacolod tapos may chance na magbisita sa san carlos, doon kami dadaan. Malamig ang trip?

There's also another good view, similar to this, at Canlaon City. It's the way you will take from Canlaon going to San Carlos or Dumaguete. It's called "Mayon". It has pines as well and it's also a highway. The only difference is that it's a highway on a cliff...
