one of the most beautiful structure in Bacolod city is its cathedral. it was built in 1876 and has survived the Japanese invasion in the 1940s. it's a typical Spanish designed church formed by coral stones. the interior design is beautiful as it displays its classic look of coral stone walls and a modern ceiling design.the lights that makes it stand our from all the other buildings along the road, reminds the people the importance of communing with God. i noticed that people come and go in this cathedral even on weekdays. some offer candles to honor God, some offer prayers and many are offered for thanksgiving.just outside the church is its plaza also filled with people. the city plaza and the church is within the town center of the city making it accessible to many.it's few days from Bacolod's most colorful festival and stalls of the coming Maskara festival are already in place.
Look at the different colors of the photos! Beautiful, Dong! It's a beautiful church. I've never met anyone from the Philippines who travels as much as you :D
>hi carver, thanks! i was lucky to have seen it during sunset.
>hi rachel, yes. i'm also amazed at how structures as big as these survive the japanese occupation.
>tink, thanks! i was lucky to have catched it during sunset.
>hi holleys, thanks! maybe i need to introduce you to oggie"lagalog", ferdz "ironwulf" and estan "langyaw". they've been to many places in the philippines. you can check them on my blogroll.
hindi pa ako nakalibot ng bacolod. noong wednesday puro trabaho. babalik ako at makasimba rin dyan sa cathedral. uy malapit na ang maskara. noong wednesday opening nga at ma-traffic kasi dumating si pgma.
Looks daunting at night! I like the church facade but we weren't ale to catch a good light when we were there. Pero at night ganda rin ng lighting. Fave ko rin interiors nya. Ganda ng mga details.
wow! I'm impressed with your talent and photography skills! looked like a pro:) nice shots! thanks for sharing those... one of my close friends was married in that church, too bad I wasn't there... seen the photos though and it's really beautiful piece of art!
wow, nice shots, esp the first one. i like the contrast very much.
nainggit tuloy ako lalo sa officemate ko who's going to bacolod on a business trip. malapit na fiesta diba?
by the way, i've been wanting to tell ferdie (ironwulf) that i cannot comment on his blog. i always get an error. can you please tell him about it? i'll ask help from Wordpress too. thanks!
>hi shawie, thanks a lot. im sure the wedding was beautiful just by the looks of this church. i hope that you'll see it soon.

>josh, maraming salamat. obra maestra talaga ng simbahan at ng araw yan. kakatuwa naman at ginawa mo pang screensaver ang iba naming kuha ni lawstude. maraming salamat. ikaw palang gumawa nyan.
>jasper, salamat. natural na kulay lang yan. sunset kasi nung nandun ako kaya ganyan ang kulay ng kalangitan.
Dong---bat ganun. Maulap ba talaga that time? Siguro nga. Pero lam mo. Unang tingin ko sa pics, maganda yung church pero nakaramdam ako ng takot. Feeling ko pics sa horror movie....
great shots, dong. i suddenly miss the old charm of my hometown. it's been years since i set foot in the plaza. looking forward to more bacolod photos.
I heard mass at this cathedral the last time I went to Bacolod. I was speechless when I saw the high ceilings and the massive structure of the church. I could really feel the sacredness of the building and the ceremony.
Hey Dong...although I am not a Christian, there is always a sense of calm each I visit Cathedrals all over the world and likewise for this post too...stunning :)

These are wonderful shots of the cathedral. Such a beautiful place and I love the ones at night.
That's a beautiful church. It's amazing how it stood strong despite the Japanese invasion. It's strength and beauty are worth admiring.
Your first photo is just stunning! I love the way the church looks against the cloudy, dark sky. Well done!

wasn't able to shoot the cathedral at night kasi harsh yung lighting but you did a good job here, dom.
yung gazebo sa plaza, i've always been amused by the homage to the great classical composers like beethoven, et al.
looks like you enjoyed your bacolod-silay foray bai kahit na maulan at maulap :-D
