Bantayan island is one of the major producers of dried fishes specially the danggit of which Cebu is also famous of. danggit are small flat fishes that is abundant here. in English they are called rabbitfish or spinefoot fish. it is fried and eaten with vinegar. perfect for breakfast!so expect fishermen occupying their own space on the waters surrounding the island of Bantayan. most of them come in groups while others go out alone with small fishing boats. Cebu city and other neighboring towns largely benefit from the fishermen of Bantayan.you'll notice that some are quite unique because they wear head coverings and wearing long sleeve-shirts to protect themselves from the heat of the sun. we actually call them "slipknots" because of the rock band Slipknot, whose members wear weird masks.one minute you see them on top of the fishing boat and in a while you'll see them jumping off their boats at deep sea areas. so by next time i'll visit Bantayan, i'll make sure to buy those masks and goggles and try to jump with them. that's adventure! others chose to hunt along the shorelines for crabs and other sea dwellers on the rocky shores of the nearby islands. and since most of the people here depends on fishing as their livelihood, children as young as six years old are already into fishing. they spent their childhood here and treat the sea as their playground.
nice documentary here, Dong. i like how you freeze-frame each image and tell your story. Bantayan Island seems like a nice place to explore. the water looks friendly and serene.
nice post dong! danggit is my favorite dried fish! lalo na pag breakfast. and the best ang quality pag danggit ng cebu. ika nga, DANGGIT BAI! your photos are great! love the shots dude!
>hi rayts, thanks a lot! it's a peaceful island with water that's serene. this side of the island rarely experience big waves because it is covered by the bigger beu island.
>olan, salamat! ako din. paborito ko rin talaga ang danggit ng cebu.
The projects in Manila was an eye-opener to all of us on the trip. The adults had gone 2 years in a row. Too bad the school here did not do a followup after that. The adventure trip to Cebu was memorable and adrenalin charged.
Phi Phi Island in Thailand? Was that inspired by the movie The Beach starring Leonardo Decaprio? Think I was there w some Caucausians backbpacking. They brought me to some awesome places which I would not have ventured to Thailand and that sparked off the backpacking bug which I must say, I kind of miss.
I'm stuck here in the city and the only untouched island left here is nothing as scenic as the ones you put up here. That's the voice of envy speaking out. Haha. Take care.
U know what? ang maganda sa blog mo dom ay sini-share mo ang mga adventure mo with details and photos. this is just like a documentary blog for me. hindi ko na kailangan mag-research at pwede na hindi na manood ng t.v. you brought up the simple living of people and the beauty of a place for me to realized and love more about the nature and continue to be inspired by the simple but great people.
